The LoTW integration connects your World Radio League (WRL) logbook with your ARRL Logbook of the World (LoTW) account. You can bring your LoTW QSOs and confirmations into WRL, and send your WRL QSOs to LoTW without running TQSL.
This guide walks you through linking your LoTW account, importing your QSOs and confirmations, uploading your callsign certificate, and sending QSOs to LoTW, including Auto Export.
Before you start
- You need a LoTW account, and the username and password you use to sign in at lotw.arrl.org.
- To send QSOs to LoTW, you also need your LoTW callsign certificate, the same one TQSL uses. If you don’t have one yet, request it in TQSL and wait for ARRL to approve it.
1. Connect Your LoTW Account #
- Open World Radio League and go to the Integrations page.
- On the LoTW Integration card, click Connect.
- Under LoTW Connection, click Link with LoTW.
- Enter your LoTW username (usually your callsign) and your LoTW password. These are the same details you use to sign in at lotw.arrl.org.
- Select the WRL logbook you want your LoTW QSOs imported into. This setting only affects imports. Exports to LoTW aren’t changed.
- Click Save.
Your LoTW account is now linked.
2. Importing QSOs and Confirmations from LoTW #
- On the LoTW Integration page, click Import New QSOs from LoTW.
- WRL downloads your QSOs from LoTW, along with any confirmations.
How imports work:
- QSOs you already have in WRL aren’t duplicated. If a QSO from LoTW matches one already in your WRL log (same call, band and mode, close in time), WRL adds the LoTW confirmation to your existing QSO instead of creating a new one.
- QSOs that aren’t in WRL yet are added to the logbook you chose in step 1.
- Run it again any time to pick up new QSOs and new confirmations. Each import continues from where the last one finished.
- Imports can take a while for large logs. You can follow progress in your Activity Log.
3. Upload Your LoTW Certificate (for Export) #
-
WRL signs your uploads with your LoTW callsign certificate, just like TQSL does.
- On your computer, open TQSL.
- Go to Callsign Certificates and select your callsign.
- Choose Save Callsign Certificate File. TQSL saves a .p12 file.
- In WRL, on the LoTW Integration page, go to Export QSOs to LoTW and click Upload Certificate.
- Choose the .p12 file. If you set a password on it in TQSL, enter that password. We only use the password to open the file once. We don’t keep it.
- Click Upload.
Your certificate is now saved. If you operate with more than one callsign or certificate, upload each one.
Note: Renewed your certificate? Click Add or Renew Certificate and upload the new file. It replaces the old one.
4. Add Your LoTW Login (for Export) #
Before sending, WRL checks which QSOs are already in your LoTW account, so nothing is uploaded twice. It uses your LoTW login from step 1 to do this.
- If you linked your account in step 1, there’s nothing more to do.
- If you see Add your LoTW login, click Add LoTW Login and enter your LoTW username and password.
- If you see LoTW login failed, click Update LoTW Login and enter your current details. This usually means you changed your password on LoTW.
5. Sending QSOs to LoTW #
There are three ways to send QSOs:
- Send Unsent QSOs to LoTW: on the LoTW Integration page, this sends every QSO that hasn’t gone to LoTW yet.
- Export to LoTW from QSO Manager: select the QSOs you want and click Export to LoTW. LoTW keeps everything you upload, so use this when you want full control over what’s sent.
- Auto Export: see step 6.
What to expect:
- QSOs already on LoTW aren’t sent again. If you also uploaded with TQSL or another program, WRL marks those QSOs as already there instead of sending them.
- QSOs imported from LoTW are never sent back to LoTW.
- LoTW works through uploads in a queue, so sent QSOs can take a few minutes to appear in your LoTW account.
- Results are in your Activity Log. The export entry shows how many QSOs were sent, how many were already on LoTW, and how many couldn’t be sent, with the reason for each. Most reasons link straight to the fix: the QSO to edit, or the place to upload a missing certificate.
Common reasons a QSO isn’t sent:
- LoTW needs a certificate for this callsign. You logged the QSO under a callsign, such as a /P call, that has no certificate uploaded. Upload that certificate, or change My Callsign on the QSO.
- The QSO has no callsign of yours. Set My Callsign on the QSO.
- The QSO date is outside your certificate’s dates, or your DXCC entity doesn’t match your certificate. Check the QSO, or upload the right certificate.
- LoTW doesn’t accept the mode or band on the QSO.
6. Enable Auto Export #
For seamless syncing:
- On the LoTW Integration page, turn on Auto Export.
- Once it’s on, every new contact you log in WRL is sent to LoTW automatically.
Note: Imported QSOs (from ADIF, QRZ or LoTW) aren’t sent automatically. Use Send Unsent QSOs to LoTW or Export to LoTW in QSO Manager for those.
