Logbook Settings

1 min read

Every logbook in World Radio League is customizable — from its name and location to radio, power settings, and even contest configurations. Editing these settings helps ensure accurate logs, tailored exports, and a smooth operating experience.

This guide explains how to access and update your logbook settings.

Accessing Logbook Settings #

  1. Go to the Log Contacts page

  2. Select the logbook you wish to edit

  3. Click the Settings wheel (⚙️) in the top-right corner of the logbook interface

You’ll now be on the Logbook Settings page, where you can update the following fields.

Editable Fields #

Logbook Name & Description #

  • Logbook Name: Change how the logbook is labeled in your dashboard

  • Description: Optional text to describe the purpose of this log (e.g., “CQ Worldwide SSB 2024” or “Mobile Operations Log”)

Logbook Style / Template #

Choose from available templates to determine which fields are visible in the logging interface:

  • Default WRL

  • All Fields Logger

  • POTA Logger
More templates may be added in the future.

Changing the template customizes the logging experience without affecting existing entries.

Operating Location #

Set a default operating location (e.g., “Home,” “Park,” or GPS grid):

  • If set, all future contacts logged in this logbook will default to this location.

  • If left blank, you can select the location during each logging session.

  • This setting does not retroactively apply to existing QSOs.

Equipment Settings #

You can define default equipment used for this logbook:

  • Radio

  • Antenna

  • Operating Power (Watts)

Like location, these settings only apply to new contacts logged after the change.

Callsign for This Logbook #

  • Use this to override your default call sign for a specific logbook.

  • Commonly used for:

    • Club callsigns

    • Special event stations

  • Any QSO logged will reflect this callsign in exports (e.g., ADIF files)

Operator Field #

If operating under a club or alternate callsign, you can enter your personal callsign here to show who actually made the contacts.

This is especially useful for contests and multi-operator activations.

Contest-Specific Settings #

If the logbook is being used for a contest, you can configure:

  • Power Category: e.g., QRP, Low, High

  • Assisted / Unassisted

  • Number of Transmitters

  • Band Category: e.g., Single Band, Multi-Band

These settings will be used in Cabrillo exports and in WRL’s real-time contest tools.

Saving Changes #

Once you’ve made your updates:

  1. Click the “Save Settings” button at the bottom

  2. A success message will appear: “Updated Successfully”

  3. Return to your logbook to see the applied changes

Important Notes #

  • Settings like location, radio, or power apply only to new QSOs going forward.

  • Past QSOs remain unchanged — if you need to update those, use QSO Manager with bulk editing tools.

Summary #

Logbook Settings allow you to:

  • Personalize each logbook by name, purpose, and operating configuration

  • Set contest categories and operator info

  • Adjust export behavior for special events or club use
