Setting Up Radio and Antenna Profiles
Welcome back to World Radio League’s Feature Highlight! Today, we’re diving into a handy feature that allows you to set up radio and antenna profiles in World Radio League. This feature is perfect for radio enthusiasts with multiple radios or antennas. By setting up these profiles, you can quickly select the right gear for each contact in your logbook, ensuring that all details are recorded accurately.
Let’s jump right into World Radio League and walk through the process!
Creating a Radio Profile
The first step in making the most of this feature is setting up a radio profile. Here’s how you can do it:
1. Navigate to Log Contacts: From the dashboard, head over to the “Log Contacts” section.
2. Create or Open a Logbook: You can either create a new logbook or open an existing one. For this tutorial, we’ll create a new logbook called Mobile. After entering the title, just hit Save.
3. Open Logbook Settings: Now, click the settings wheel at the top-right side to open your logbook settings.
4. Add a Radio:
-
- Scroll down to the “Default Radio” section.
- Select View/Add More Radios and then click Add Radio.
- Enter your radio’s name. For non-mainstream brands, click Other.
- Input the model, a description, and any other details. If you don’t have all the information (e.g., purchase date, photo), it’s okay to leave those fields blank.
- Once done, hit Save to lock in your new radio profile.
And just like that, your radio is set up!
Setting Up an Antenna Profile
Now that your radio is in place, it’s time to add an antenna profile. Here’s the process:
1. Go to the My Antennas Tab: This tab is located next to the radio settings.
2. Add an Antenna:
-
- Click Add Antenna and enter the type. For this tutorial, we added a quarter-wave ground plane antenna.
- If your antenna is a custom or homemade, you can give it any custom name.
- Specify the type—we chose Vertical for our VHF antenna—and add a description, such as “Quarter-Wave Ground Plane VHF.”
- Enter the year you purchased/built the antenna. Since the one we used was a Homebrew project from 2023, that’s the year we had to fill in.
- When asked for a brand name, you may input the specific brand or assign a unique name if it’s an in-house creation, such as “Homebrew” for our purposes.
3. Save the Profile: Hit Save, and your antenna is now available for use in any of your logbooks.
Step 3: Logging Contacts with Radio and Antenna Profiles
Once you’ve set up both your radio and antenna profiles, you can easily apply them to your logged contacts. Here’s how:
- Open the Logbook: Navigate back to your logbook.
- Select Your Radio and Antenna:
- From the “Radio” dropdown menu, choose the radio you have configured, such as the QYT KT-8900D in this instance.
- From the “Antenna” dropdown menu, select your antenna type, which in this instance is the quarter-wave ground plane antenna.
- Log Your Contacts: Any contact you log within this logbook now automatically include details about your selected radio and antenna.
If you wish to switch radios or antennas during your logging session, don’t worry! You can easily switch either your radio or antenna by using the drop-down menu at the top of the logbook.
